Karapuzha Dam is located in Kalpetta in the Indian state of Kerala. It is one of the biggest earth dams in India. The dam lies on the Karapuzha River which is a tributary of the Kabini River. The dam is a man-made marvel. It offers a most scenic view of the Karapuzha River from the dam. One can hear the sound of water gushing amidst the green landscape of Kalpetta. An evening walk here becomes memorable for the peace and solitude it offers.

The construction of the Karapuzha Dam began in 1977 and got over by 2004 for irrigation purposes. However, the tourism department developed the area around the dam by constructing an aquarium here and starting boating as well as canoeing facilities at the spot. One can take nature walks in the countryside and click pictures of the beautiful and unique birds which fly around here. During the monsoon season, the water in Karapuzha Dam reaches to the brim making the scene quite amazing. The dam remains open throughout the year and is definitely worth a visit.

The tourism department of Kerala in cooperation with irrigation department progressing with the project of an amusement park at the premises of Karapuzha dam. A well-built rose garden, which is largest in Asia itself is under progression. Am amphitheatre, Garden, children park etc. are commissioning soon. Karapuzha Dam is around 7 km away from Kakavayal (Kakavayal is on NH-212, 8 Km from Kalpetta in SulthanBathery direction). It is easily accessible from Kozhikode (89 km) and Mysore in Karnataka (131 km).
