Surrounded by pristine wilderness and charming landscapes, Chethalayam waterfalls is one of the rarely visited tourist destinations in Wayanad. The river flowing through rocky step-like slopes offers a picture-perfect view for its visitors. You can only reach the Chethalayam waterfalls after a short trek through the jungle. This distance is considered to be one of the finest trekking trails in the area. Due to the proximity to the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, there is a high chance of spotting wildlife such as Sambar deer, Gaur, Elephants and Sloth Bear. This along with the presence of exotic flora scattered across the area makes Chethalayam waterfalls a wonderful picnic spot.
Chethalayam waterfall is a seasonal waterfall. The stream can go narrow and even completely dry during the summer season. If your intention is to enjoy the sight of a mighty waterfall and to get wet in its light shower you better consider visiting the falls during the monsoon or early winter (June to February). The stream can be a bit unpredictable and dangerous during the high monsoon since the water level can increase with less warning.
This stunning waterfall shares close proximity with the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary and is a true treasure trove for the nature enthusiasts. As visitors go deeper inside the jungle, the chirping of the birds can be heard more clearly and the sound of the waterfalls attract them towards it. The visitors are required to get passes from the Forest Range Office check post at Chethalayam. Their permission is mandatory to get into the jungle and to the surroundings of the Chethalayam waterfalls. One can also avail the service of a guide from the check post. The visiting time is between 6 AM and 5 PM. The nearest town is Kidangand 12 Kilometers from Sulthan Bathery and 37 kilometres from Kalpetta. The nearest railway station and is Kozhikode Railway station (97 km) and the nearest airport is Calicut International Airport (120 km).

Oops Chethalayam waterfalls is not opened last few years
The Chethalayam Falls is just 12 kilometers away from Sulthan Bathery on Pullpalli road, and is near Kidangand is 37 kilometers from Kalpetta in Wayanad. It is possible to take the vehicle through an off-road path to near this waterfall.
The best time to visit Chethalayam Falls is immediately after the monsoon, from September till February. Though this waterfall gets to full glory in monsoon season, leaches are in abundance during that time. Also, the moss-covered wet rocks of the trekking trail get very slippery at that time. Early morning visits are preferable to this destination to observe some wildlife and birds around. One must avoid visiting this place during the summer season as it tends to dry.
• Visitors have to take passes to visit this waterfall issued by the forest range office at Chethalayam. The permission of the forest range office is mandatory to get into the forest surrounding the waterfall.
• Visitors can avail the services of a guide from the check post. At times wild elephants pass through the region that is why guide service becomes indispensable to the trek to this destination.
